Hundreds of protesters defied a Government ban to take to the streets of Manama to demand the release of political prisoners in Bahrain. The protest had been called by leading opposition party Al Wefaq who’s General Secretary, Sheikh Ali Salman, took part in the march. The Government has refused to tolerate protests inside the capital city since the uprising began more than 18 months ago. Security forces fired tear gas at protesters and heavily militarised Manama in order to stop protesters reaching the centre of the City. See pictures below, courtesy of Al Wefaq:
